Our Journey
Mike Phillipson, who had joined Evans in 1976 from British Steel, led a MBO and commenced trading as Evans 2000 on 1st November 1999.
Thomas Ward was acquired by Rio Tinto Zinc (RTZ). Since RTZ was mainly interested in cement, the Evans business was separated through a management buyout (MBO) led by Bill Reid. Evans became a private company and moved to Sheffield.
Evans became part of the Thomas Ward Group. That time Evans had a depot in Castleford and had recently branched out into piling.
Evans were originally called “Evans of Bow” and were primarily interested in scaffolding.
